Question
Find (a + b) ÷ (a – b) if a = `1/2`, b = `2/3`
Solution
a = `1/2`, b = `2/3`
a + b = `1/2 + 2/3`
= `(1 xx 3 + 2 xx 2)/6`
= `(3 + 4)/6`
= `7/6`
a − b = `1/2 - 2/3`
= `(1 xx 3 - 2 xx 2)/6`
= `(3 - 4)/6`
= `(-1)/6`
(a + b) ÷ (a − b) = `7/6 ÷ (-1)/6`
= `7/6 xx 6/(-1)`
= −7
