Question
Find the 24th term of the sequence:
12, 10, 8, 6, .......
Solution
The given sequence is 12, 10, 8, 6, .......
Now,
10 – 12 = –2
8 – 10 = –2
6 – 8 = –2, etc.
Hence, the given sequence is an A.P. with first term a = 12 and common difference d = –2.
The general term of an A.P. is given by
tn = a +(n – 1)d
`=>` t24 = 12 + (24 – 1)(–2)
= 12 + 23 × (–2)
= 12 – 46
= –34
So, the 24th term is –34.
