Question
Which of the following lists of numbers form an A.P.? If they form an A.P., find the common difference d and write the next three terms : `sqrt(2), sqrt(8), sqrt(18), sqrt(32)`,...
Solution
`sqrt(2), sqrt(8), sqrt(18), sqrt(32)`,...
⇒ `sqrt(2), 2sqrt(2), 3sqrt(2), 4sqrt(2)`,...
Here, first term (a) = `sqrt(2)`
and common difference (d)
= `2sqrt(2) - sqrt(2) = sqrt(2)`
= `3sqrt(2) - 2sqrt(2) = sqrt(2)`
= `4sqrt(2) - 3sqrt(2) = sqrt(2)`
∵ The common difference is same
∵ It is an A.P.
and next three terms are
`sqrt(50), sqrt(72), sqrt(98)`,...
