Question

Find the general solution of the following equation :

cosθ = `sqrt(3)/(2)`

Sum

Solution

The general solution of cos θ = cos α is
θ = 2nπ ± α, n ∈ Z

Now,

`cos θ  = (sqrt(3))/(2) = cos  (pi)/(6)     ...[∵ cos  pi/(6) = (sqrt(3))/(2)]`
∴ the required general solution is

θ = 2nπ ± `pi/(6)`, n ∈ Z.
