Question
Find three consecutive integers such that their sum is 78.
Solution
Sum of three consecutive numbers = 78
Let first number = x
Then second number = x + 1
and third number = x + 2
Then x + x+1+x + 2 = 78
⇒ 3x + 3 = 78
⇒ 3x = 78 – 3 = 75
⇒ x = `75/3 = 25`
∴ First number=25
Second number = 25 + 1 = 26
and third number = 26 + 1 = 27
Then the three required numbers are 25, 26, 27
