Two-fifths of a number subtracted from three-fourths of it gives 56, find the number.
Solution
Let the required number = x
According to the sum,
`3/4"x" - 2/5"x" = 56`
`("15x" - "8x")/20 = 56`
`=> 7/20"x" = 56`
`=> "x" = (56 xx 20)/7 = 8 xx 20 = 160`
