Question

For the following experiment write sample space ‘S’ and number of sample points n(S).

One coin and one die are thrown simultaneously.

Solution

Sample Space (S) = {1H, 1T, 2H, 2T, 3H, 3T, 4H, 4T, 5H, 5T, 6H, 6T}
∴ n(S) = 12
Hence, the required number of sample spaces is 12.

1) Event A : to get at least one head.
2) Event B : to get no head.
Activity : If two coins are tossed simultaneously
∴ s =  {`square , "HT","TH", square`}
1) Event A : at least getting one head.
∴ A = {`"HH" , square , "TH"`}
2) Event B : to get no head.
∴ B = {`square`}
