Question
Give an account of the blunders committed by the prison authorities in the story 'Evan's Tries an O' level'.
Solution
Despite all of the precautions the Governor and his staff took, they were unable to stop Evans' attempt to flee due to a few errors on their part. They first hired a technical college instructor to train Evans in German, but they never bothered to contact to see how he was doing. Then, knowing that Evans knew the invigilator's name, they allowed him to view it on the form without taking any safeguards to confirm the invigilator's identification. Additionally, they permitted Mc Leery to bring the rubber tube inside and let Evans wear the hat for good luck.
Even though Evans was simply sitting there, not at all writing, Stephens chose not to enter the cell. Furthermore, he never bothered to confirm the Governor's call. Despite the fact that Mc Leery appeared leaner while leaving, he paid Mc Leery the least attention and ignored him. He gave Evans a blanket to wear, claimed he had accidentally left the correction document behind, and accepted the information on it. Instead of the ambulance, he requested the cops.
In order to protect Evans, the Governor appointed Stephens as a new guard. When Evans objected, he quickly agreed to send Stephens out of the cell. He alerted Evans that the cell had been bugged while allowing the test phone call to go through without checking the caller's identity. Knowing how cunning Evans was, he ultimately let him to flee a second time in a van without checking the security.
