Question

If the sum of the roots of the equation `kx^2+2x+3k=0` is equal to their product then the value of k

`(a) 1/3   (b)-1/3  (c)2/3   (d)-2/3`

Solution

Given:

`kx^2+2x+3k=0`

Sum of the roots = Product of the roots

⇒ `-2/k=(3k)/k`

⇒ `3k=-2`

⇒` k=(-2)/3`
