Solution
Let the original (old) price = Rs. 100
Reduction = 10% = Rs. 10
∴If reduction is Rs. 10, then old price = Rs. 100
and if reduction is Rs. 40, then old price = Rs. `(100 xx 40)/10` = Rs. 400
