Notes

Converting Decimals to Percentage:

  • Decimals too can be converted to percentages.
  • Converting from a decimal to a percentage is done by multiplying the decimal value by 100 and adding %.
  • The shortcut to convert from decimal to percent is to move the decimal point 2 places to the right and add a percent sign.

Example,

(i) 0.675 becomes 0.675 x 100 = 67.5%

(ii) 0.36

Multiply 0.36 by `100/100`.

Since `100/100` = 1, we are only multiplying by 1 and not changing the value of our number.

`0.36/1 xx 100/100 = 36/100`

`36/100` is 36 over 100 and means 36 per 100.

36 "per 100" means 36 "percent" or 36%.

Therefore, we have shown that

0.36 = 36%.

Example

Convert the given decimals to percents: 0.75

0.75 = 0.75 × 100% = `75/100 xx 100%` = 75%.

Example

Convert the given decimals to percents: 0.09

0.09 = 0.09 × 100% = `9/100` = 9%.

Example

Convert the given decimals to percents: 0.2

0.2 = `2/10 xx 100%`  = 20%.
