Congruence:

                 

  • One stamp covers the other completely and exactly. This means that the two stamps are of the same shape and same size. Such objects are said to be congruent.

  • Congruent objects are exact copies of one another.

  • The relation of two objects being congruent is called congruence.

  • ‘congruent’ means equal in all respects or figures whose shapes and sizes are both the same.

Congruence of Plane Figures:

  • The method of superposition examines the congruence of plane figures.

  • Two plane figures say F1 and F2 are congruent if the trace-copy of F1 fits exactly on that of F2.

  • If figure F1 is congruent to figure F2, we write F1 ≅ F2.

Definition

Congruent means equal in all respects or figures whose shapes and sizes are both the same.
