Notes

Triangles as Parts of Rectangles and square:

  • The rectangle can be considered as a combination of two congruent triangles.

  • Sum of the areas of the two triangles is the same as the area of the rectangle. Both the triangles are equal in area.

The area of each triangle = `1/2` (Area of the rectangle)

= `1/2` × (l × b)

= `1/2` (8 × 5)

= `40/2`

= 20 cm2

Similarly,

  • The square can be considered as a combination of four congruent triangles.

  • Sum of the areas of the four triangles is the same as the area of the square. All the triangles are equal in area.

The area of each triangle = `1/4`(Area of the square)

= `1/4`(side)2

= `1/4`(5)2 cm2

= 6.25 cm2
