Question
If x = 2๐ผ + 1 and y = ๐ผ – 1 is a solution of the equation 2x−3y + 5 = 0, find the value of ๐ผ.
Solution
We have
2x−3y + 5 = 0
It is given that x = 2 α + 1 and = α - 1is a solution of the equation 2x−3y + 5 = 0
∴ 2 (2α + 1) - 3 (α + 1) 5 = 0
⇒ 4α + 2- 3α + 3 +5 = 0
⇒ α + 10 = 0
⇒ α = - 10
