Question
"Marketing is consumer oriented whereas selling is seller oriented." Explain.
Solution
Marketing seeks to gain profits through customer satisfaction, whereas selling seeks to maximise profits. The former is based on the maxim caveat vendor (let the seller beware), whereas the latter is based on the maxim caveat vendor (let the buyer beware). Thus, marketing focuses on the needs and expectations of customers. On the other hand, selling focusses on the need of the seller to earn money.
