Solution
No Pain, No Gain
Honourable panel of jury, distinguished guests, respected teachers, my fellow friends and not to forgot, my worthy, but, misguided opponents. I, Navtej, stand before you to speak for the motion on the topic “Standard of living can be raised, but only at a great cost”
Who does not want to lead a good life? A life where everything is comfortable, jobs are plentiful, prices are low, dams provide safety from natural disasters, etc.
Yes, such a life though had seemed a dream some time back, is within reach now but unfortunately, at a very great cost. Yes friends, to fulfil this dream, we have sacrificed (and are still sacrificing) our natural resources and have given an open invitation to all types of pollution, thereby leading to various diseases and complications.
The scenario now is that we have all the luxuries that we ever wanted but no health to enjoy them. Is this how we had expected life to be? Pay heed to this and decide for yourselves what kind of life you would like to opt for. No, no, do not misunderstand me; I am not against progress, I only want to stress upon the point that progress should be beneficial to man and nature alike. So, let us find a way that will enable us to have our cake and eat it too!
