Question

'Old age homes are not required in India.' Write a debate in 150-200 words either for or against the motion.

Solution

A very good morning to jury members, friends and my fellow opponents. Today, I am going to speak for the motion on the topic 'Old age homes are not required in India'. Owing strong allegiance to what my fellow opponent said, old age homes do provide food & shelter, with some medical assistance, but do they also offer and substitute the love and care that parents expect from their children? My answer to this question would be a big No. Old age homes are institutions that can aid the people in their old age but never guarantee a happy life.

The idea of old age homes was alien to us as India has been the proud country which followed the joint family system, where elderly were treated with great regard and respect. They were considered the root of a family. To witness children depriving their parents of the basic right to stay with them in the old age is disheartening. They constitute as an inseparable part of the family and shouldn't be sent to old age homes even in the worst case scenario.

People of old age are not a burden but a treasure to be cherished and preserved. I strongly believe that the need for old age homes in the Indian society is futile.

Thank You.
