Question
Put the given fraction in ascending order by making denominator equal:
`1/3, 2/5, 3/4 "and" 1/6`
Solution
`1/3, 2/5, 3/4 "and" 1/6`
L.C.M. of denominators 3, 5, 4 and 6 = 60
`therefore 1/3 = (1 xx 20)/(3 xx 20) = 20/60`
`2/5 = (2 xx 12)/(5 xx 12) = 24/60`
`3/4 = (3 xx 15)/(4 xx 15) = 45/60`
`1/6 = (1 xx 10)/(6 xx 10) = 10/60`
From above we see that
`10/60 < 20/60 < 24/60 < 45/60`
or `1/6 < 1/3 < 2/5 < 3/4`
Hence, `1/6, 1/3, 2/5, 3/4` are in ascending order.
