Question
Put the given fraction in ascending order by making denominator equal:
`5/6, 7/8, 11/12 "and" 3/10`
Solution
`5/6, 7/8, 11/12 "and" 3/10`
L.C.M. of denominators 6, 8, 12 and 10 = 240
`therefore 5/6 = (5 xx 40)/(6 xx 40) = 200/240`
`7/8 = (7 xx 30)/(8 xx 30) = 210/240`
`11/12 = (11 xx 20)/(12 xx 20) = 220/240`
`3/10 = (3 xx 24)/(10 xx 24) = 72/240`
It is clear from the above that
`72/240 < 200/240 < 210/240 < 220/240`
or `3/10 < 5/6 < 7/8 < 11/12`
Hence, `3/10, 5/6, 7/8 "and" 11/12` are in ascending order.
