Question

Reduction of 5% on the sales tax of scooters reduced its selling price by Rs 2,200. Find the marked price of the scooter.

Sum

Solution

The decrease in price of the soooter is only because of the decrease in amount of sales tax.

Let marked price be x

And decrease amount of sales tax is

= (decrease in rate of sales tax) x Price/ 100

This amount is given as Rs 2,200.

Also it is given Decrease in rate of sales tax = 5 °/o

Therefore:

Rs 2200 = `x xx 5/100`

Rs 2200 = `x/20`

x = Rs 2200 × 20 = Rs 44000

Thus marked price of the soooter is Rs. 44,000
