In 1941, the U.S. President D. Roosevelt and the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill issued a declaration known as the Atlantic Charter.
The main objectives of the Charter were:
(i) to respect each others sovereignty and territorial integrity.
(ii) to maintain international peace and security.
(iii) to encourage disarmament.
(iv) to promote economic, cultural and social cooperation.
(v) to recognise the fundamental rights and status of all people.
