Question

Show that 2, 12 and 72 are in continued proportion.

Sum

Solution

Three numbers a, b and c are in continued

proportion if, a : b : : b : c

The numbers are 2, 12 and 72

`"a"/"b" = 2/12 = 1/6`

`"b"/"c" = 12/72 = 1/6`

As, `"a"/"b" = "b"/"c"`

∴ 2, 12 and 72 are in continued proportion.
