Question

Simplify:

−2(x2 − y2 + xy) −3(x2 + y2 − xy)

Sum

Solution

−2(x2 − y2 + xy) −3(x2 + y2 − xy)
Here a '−' sign precedes both the parenthesis. So, we will remove them and change the sign of each term within the two parentheses.
= −2x2 +2y2 − 2xy −3x2 − 3y2 + 3xy
= (−2 − 3)x2 +(2 − 3)y2 + (− 2 + 3)xy
= −5x2 − y2 + xy
