Question

Simplify:

5x − [4y − {7x − (3z − 2y) + 4z − 3(x + 3y − 2z)}]

Sum

Solution

5x − [4y − {7x − (3z − 2y) + 4z − 3(x + 3y − 2z)}]
We will first remove the innermost grouping symbol ( ), followed by { } and then [ ].

∴ 5x − [4y − {7x − (3z − 2y) + 4z − 3(x + 3y − 2z)}]
= 5x − [4y − {7x − 3z + 2y + 4z − 3x − 9y + 6z}]
= 5x − [4y − {4x + 7z − 7y}]
= 5x − [4y − 4x − 7z + 7y]
= 5x − [11y − 4x − 7z ]
= 5x − 11y + 4x + 7z
= 9x − 11y + 7z
