Question
Solve the following:
`(2x - 3)/(4x + 5) = 1/3`
Solution
Given, `(2x - 3)/(4x + 5) = 1/3`
⇒ 3(2x – 3) = 4x + 5 ...[By cross-multiplication]
⇒ 6x – 9 = 4x + 5
⇒ 6x – 4x = 9 + 5 ...[Transposing 4x LHS and –9 to RHS]
⇒ 2x = 14
⇒ `(2x)/2 = 14/2` ...[Dividing both sides by 2]
∴ x = 7
