Question
Solve the following simultaneous equation graphically.
2x + 3y = 12 ; x – y = 1
Graph
Solution
2x + 3y = 12
∴ 3y = 12 - 2x
∴ y = `(12 - 2x)/3`
x | 0 | 6 | 3 |
y | 4 | 0 | 2 |
(x, y) | (0, 4) | (6, 0) | (3, 2) |
x – y = 1
∴ y = x - 1
x | 0 | 1 | 3 |
y | -1 | 0 | 2 |
(x, y) | (0, -1) | (1, 0) | (3, 2) |

The solution of the given equations is the point of intersection of the two line i.e (3, 2).
