Question
Solve the following simultaneous equation graphically.
x – 3y = 1 ; 3x – 2y + 4 = 0
Graph
Solution
x - 3y = 1
x - 1 = 3y
∴ 3y = x - 1
∴ y = `(x - 1)/3`
x | 1 | 4 | 7 |
y | 0 | 1 | 2 |
(x,y) | (1,0) | (4,1) | (7,2) |
3x – 2y + 4 = 0
3x + 4 = 2y
2y = 3x + 4
∴ y - `(3x + 4)/2`
x | 0 | 2 | -2 |
y | 2 | 5 | -1 |
(x,y) | (0,2) | (2,5) | (-2,-1) |
