Questions
State any four psychological barriers of communication.
Explain briefly any three psychological barriers to effective communication.
Explain any two psychological barriers to communication.
Solution
Psychological Barriers: Various psychological factors such as anger and frustration may also act as barriers to effective communication.
- Premature evaluation: People may evaluate the meaning of the conveyed message before the sender completes his message. In this way, the premature evaluation may be due to preconceived notions and making of conclusions without logical deduction from the situation
- Lack of attention: Communication becomes ineffective when the receiver does not pay full attention to the message. For example, if an individual is frustrated over a matter, his mind will be preoccupied, and he will not be able to understand a piece of information given to him.
- Distrust: Distrust between the communicator and receiver acts as a barrier to effective communication. In such a case, they may not understand each other’s message in the original sense. Hence, they do not give importance to the information exchanged between them.
- Loss by transmission and poor retention: When oral communication is transmitted over multiple channels of communication, the message's structure is destroyed, or an inaccurate message is transmitted.
