Questions
State any two Disadvantages of Internal Recruitment.
State two/three disadvantages of internal recruitment.
State briefly the disadvantages of internal sources of recruitment.
Answer in Brief
Solution 1
The following are the two drawbacks of internal hiring:
- No Opportunity for Outside Deserving Candidates: The main disadvantage of this source is that it may deprive the company of qualified, skilled, and deserving individuals from outside.
- Promotion of Inefficient Employees: Unsuitable people can sometimes utilise their clout to gain promotions. They are promoted from within the organisation without regard for merit merely because they are employed there and have good working relationships with their superiors.

Solution 2
- There may be inbreeding as fresh talent from outside is not obtained. Internal candidates may not bring a new outlook and fresh ideas to business.
- Unsuitable candidates may be promoted to positions of higher responsibility because the choice is limited.
- The employees may become lethargic if they are sure of time-bound promotions. There may be infighting among those who aspire for promotion within the organisation.
- Internal recruitment cannot be a complete method in itself. The enterprise has to resort to external recruitment at some stage because all vacancies cannot be filled from within the organisation.
