Question
The marks obtained by 10 students are listed below:
2, 5, 3, 8, 0, 9, x, 6, 1, 8
If the mean marks is 5, find x.
Solution
Mean = `(sumx)/"N"`
= `(2 + 5 + 3 + 8 + 0 + 9 + x + 6 + 1 + 8)/(10)`
= `(42 + x)/(10)`
∴ 5 = `(42 + x)/(10)`
⇒ 50 = 42 + x
⇒ x = 50 - 42 = 8.
