The random variables have regression lines 3x + 2y − 26 = 0 and 6x + y − 31 = 0. Calculate mean value of x and y.

Regression lines are 3x + 2y − 26 = 0  ...(i)

6x + y − 31 = 0  ...(ii)

`(barx, bary)` satisfies the equation (i) and (ii),

∴ Solving (i) and (ii) we get,

`barx` = 4 and `bary` = 7
