Question
The weekly sale of motor bikes in a showroom for the past 14 weeks given below. 10, 6, 8, 3, 5, 6, 4, 7, 12, 13, 16, 10, 4, 7. Find the median of the data.
Solution
Arranging the given data in ascending order 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 10, 10, 12, 13, 16.
Here number of data n = 14, which is even
∴ Median = `1/2{("n"/2)^"th" "term" + ("n"/2 + 1)^"th" "term"}`
= `1/2{(14/2)^"th" "term" + (14/2 + 1)^"th" "term"}`
= `1/2{7^"th" "term" + 8^"th" "term"}`
= `1/2{7 + 7}`
= `1/2(14)`
= 7
∴ Median = 7
