Question
‘There is a hole in the ozone layer’. What do you understand by this?
Solution
The depletion of the ozone layer takes place due to two reactions between ozone and chlorofluorocarbons which are released from an aerosol spray can in air conditioners and refrigerators. The depletion is particularly marked over the Antarctic region. This has resulted in the formation of a large area of thinned ozone layer called the ozone hole.
