Question

Choose the correct option:

Two inductor coils with inductance 10 mH and 20 mH are connected in series. What is the resultant inductance of the combination of the two coils?

Options

  • 20 mH

  • 30 mH

  • 10 mH

  • `20/3` mH

MCQ

Solution

30 mH

Explanation:

Step 1:

Let Ls = the resultant inductance of the combination of the two coils.

Substitute the given values from Question,

`L_1 = 10 mH`  ......(1)

`L_2 = 20 mH`  ......(2)

Applying the concept of combination of the two coils of Inductors in Series

We get, `L_s = L_1 + L_2`  .....(3)

Step 2:

Substitute from (1), (2) and (3) and calculate:

`L_s = 10 + 20`

`L_s = 30 mH`
