What is the chance that a leap year, selected at random, will contain 53 Sundays?

Solution

A leap year has 366 days

366 = 52 × 7 + 2

∴ there are 52 weeks and 2 other days.

These 2 days can be Sunday-Monday; Monday-Tuesday; Tuesday-Wednesday; Wednesday-Thursday; Thursday-Friday; Friday-Saturday; Saturday-Sunday.

∴ there are 7 possibilities and favorable cases are 2

∴ the required probability = `2/7`
