Solution

A village is a small rural settlement characterized by a close-knit community, an agriculture-based economy, and natural surroundings. Unlike cities, villages have a lower population density and simpler infrastructure.

Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is a densely populated city located on the western coast of India. It is built on a reclaimed peninsula extending into the Arabian Sea, influencing its urban development and economy.

Characteristics:

  • Geography:
    1. Villages are often located in plains, valleys, or near water sources, ensuring access to fertile land and fresh water.
    2. Originally a cluster of seven islands, Mumbai expanded through land reclamation. It has a natural harbor and important water bodies like Powai Lake.
  • Urban Structure:
    1. Agriculture, animal husbandry, and small-scale industries are the primary sources of livelihood. Some villages also engage in handicrafts and cottage industries.
    2. The city is a financial hub with a mix of high-rise buildings, slums, and green spaces like Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
  • Transport:
    1. Villages have basic infrastructure, including mud or brick houses, narrow roads, local markets, and limited public transport.
    2. Mumbai has a well-connected transport system, including railways, roadways, metro, and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
