Solution
2x2 + 8x + 9 = 0
a = 2, b = 8 and c = 9
∴ Discriminant` = "b"^2 – 4"ac"`
= `(8)^2 – 4(2)(9)`
= 64 – 72
= − 8 = a negative value
Since D < 0, then the equation has imaginary roots.
