Question

Write whether the following statement vary directly, vary inversely with each other, or neither of the two.

Sales Tax and the amount of the bill.

Sum

Solution

Sales tax and the amount of the bill are directly proportional to each other.

E.g. Let bill amount = ₹ 1000

Sales tax = 10%

Then, sales tax = `10/100 xx 1000` = ₹ 100

But if, bill amount = 2000

Sales tax = 10%

Then, sales tax = `10/100 xx 2000`

= 10 × 20

= ₹ 200
