History of Periodic Table:

Initially, scientists classified elements into metals and non-metals. However, some elements displayed properties that were neither completely metallic nor non-metallic. These elements were classified as metalloids. This simple classification was found to be insufficient for a systematic scientific study.

  • As more elements were discovered, their physical and chemical properties were analysed, and scientists noticed patterns.
  • Around the year 1800, only about 30 elements were known, but today, 118 elements have been identified. To simplify their study, various classification methods were developed to organise elements based on their properties.
  • Periodic Table: To arrange elements systematically, a table was created where elements with similar properties are placed in the same vertical column, while dissimilar elements are kept apart. This structured arrangement is known as the periodic table, which helps in understanding and studying the elements more efficiently.
