Drugs, Tobacco, and Alcohol Use- An Invitation to Death

Tobacco, drugs, and alcohol can harm the body by changing how a person feels, thinks, and behaves. This state is called intoxication. Regular use can lead to addiction, where the person feels they need the substance all the time. Addiction can cause serious health problems and even lead to death.

  • Some people may pressure others to try these substances, but giving in to this pressure can lead to a lifetime of problems. It's important to say "no" and avoid them.
  • If someone starts using tobacco, alcohol, or drugs, getting help early is important. Doctors and counsellors can support recovery and help stop addiction.
  • Drug abuse means using drugs in a harmful way. Some are illegal, and even legal medicines can be dangerous if misused.

Addiction and Dependence:
Addiction causes the body and mind to depend on the substance. Without it, the person feels unwell or uncomfortable, making it hard to quit. That’s why it is better to avoid these substances from the start.

Effects of Drug and Alcohol Abuse:

  • Drugs and alcohol can damage important organs like the brain, heart, liver, and lungs. It can lead to mental health issues.
  • People under the influence of drugs or alcohol are more likely to get into accidents because they can’t think or move properly.
  • Long-term use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco can lead to serious diseases and even death.

Prevention and Control of Drug Abuse:

  • Learning about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco at a young age is very important.
  • Family and friends should provide emotional support and guidance to help individuals avoid or overcome drug use.
  • Seek help from counsellors, doctors, or rehabilitation centres if someone shows signs of addiction.
  • Encourage participation in sports, hobbies, and other fun activities to keep the mind and body healthy.
  • Governments enforce laws that restrict access to illegal drugs.
  • Eating good, nutritious food at the right times helps keep your body strong.
