प्रश्न

A tent is made in the form of a frustum of a cone surmounted by another cone. The diameters of the base and the top of the frustum are 20 m and 6 m, respectively, and the height is 24 m. If the height of the tent is 28 m and the radius of the conical part is equal to the radius of the top of the frustum, find the quantity of canvas required.

उत्तर

For the lower portion of the tent:

Diameter of the base= 20 m

Radius, R, of the base = 10 m

Diameter of the top end of the frustum = 6 m

Radius of the top end of the frustum = r = 3 m

Height of the frustum = h = 24 m

Slant height = l

`= sqrt("h"^2 + ("R" - r)^2)`

`= sqrt(24^2 + (10-3)^2)`

`=sqrt(576+49)`

`=sqrt(625) = 25 "m"`

For the conical part:
Radius of the cone's base = r = 3 m
Height of the cone = Total height - Height of the frustum = 28-24 = 4 m

slant height, L, of the cone =`sqrt(3^2+4^2) = sqrt(9+16) = sqrt(25) = 5  "m"`

Total quantity of canvas = Curved surface area of the frustum + curved surface area of the conical top

=(πl(R+r)) + πLr

= π(l(R + r)) + Lr)

`=22/7 (25xx13+5xx3)`

`=22/7 (325 + 15)= 1068.57  "m"^2`

An oil funnel of tin sheet consists of a cylindrical portion 10 cm long attached to a frustum of a cone. If the total height be 22 cm, the diameter of the cylindrical portion 8 cm and the diameter of the top of the funnel 18 cm, find the area of the tin required.(Use π = 22/7).

A bucket made up of a metal sheet is in the form of a frustum of a cone of height 16 cm and radii of its lower and upper ends are 8 cm and 20 cm, respectively. Find the cost of the bucket if the cost of metal sheet used is Rs 15 per 100 cm2.

A bucket made up of a metal sheet is in the form of frustum of a cone. Its depth is 24 cm and the diameters of the top and bottom are 30 cm and 10 cm, respectively. A metallic spherical shell of internal and external diameters 4 cm and 8 cm, respectively, is melted and recast in the form of a cone of base diameter 8 cm. The height of the cone is ______.

Find the total surface area of frustum, if its radii are 15 cm and 7 cm. Also, the slant height of the frustum is 14 cm.

Radii of the frustum = `square` cm and `square` cm

Slant height of the frustum = `square` cm

Total surface area = `π[(r_1^2 + r_2^2 + (r_1 + r_2)l]`

= `22/7 [square + square + (square + square) square]`

= `22/7 (square)`

= `square` cm2

Hence, the total surface area of the frustum is `square`.

Read the following passage and answer the questions given below.

A 'circus' is a company of performers who put on shows of acrobats, clowns etc. to entertain people started around 250 years back, in open fields, now generally performed in tents.

One such 'Circus Tent' is shown below.

The tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and diameter of cylindrical part are 9 m and 30 m respectively and height of conical part is 8 m with same diameter as that of the cylindrical part, then find

  1. the area of the canvas used in making the tent;
  2. the cost of the canvas bought for the tent at the rate ₹ 200 per sq m, if 30 sq m canvas was wasted during stitching.
