Chemical formula of washing soda is `"Na"_2"CO"_3` .
When baking soda is heated, sodium carbonate, water and `"CO"_2` are produced.
Sodium carbonate obtained is dissoved in water and crystals of washing soda are obtained by crystallization.
\[\ce{2NaHCO3 ->[\Delta] Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2}\]
Uses of washing soda:
(i) It acts as water softner.
(ii) Sodium carbonate covers and kills spores.
(iii) It can also be used in textile and petroleum refining.
