Solution

21 – 3 (b - 7) = b+ 20

⇒ 21 - 3b + 21 = b + 20 

⇒ - 3b + 42 = b + 20

⇒ - 3b - b = 20 - 42

⇒ - 4b = - 22

⇒ b = `(-22)/(-4) = 11/2`

∴ b = `11/2 = 5 1/2`
