Question
Solve the following equations for the unknown: `2sqrt((x - 3)/(x + 5)) = (1)/(3)`
Solution
`2sqrt((x - 3)/(x + 5)) = (1)/(3)`
⇒ `(2sqrt((x - 3)/(x + 5)))^2 = (1/3)^2`
⇒ `4((x - 3)/(x + 5)) = (1)/(9)`
⇒ `(4x - 12)/(x + 5) = (1)/(9)`
⇒ 9(4x - 12) = x + 5
⇒ 36x - 108 = x + 5
⇒ 35x = 113
⇒ x = `(113)/(35)`.
