Question
A hydrocarbon contains 4.8g of carbon per gram of hydrogen. Calculate the gram atom of each.
Solution 1
The g atom of carbon = 4.8/12 = 0.4 and g atom of hydrogen = 1/1=1
Solution 2
Element | % age wt. | At wt. | Relative no of moles | Simple ratio of atoms |
C | 4.8 | 12 | `4.8/12` = 0.4 | `0.4/0.4` = 1 |
H | 1 | 1 | `1/1` = 1 | `1/0.4` = `10/4` |
∴ gram atom of C = 0.4 and H = 1.
