Question
Add and find the degree of the following expressions.
(9x + 3y) and (10x – 9y)
Solution
(9x + 3y) and (10x – 9y)
This can be written as (9x + 3y) + (10x – 9y)
Grouping the like terms, we get
(9x + 10x) + (3y – 9y) = x(9 + 10) + y(3 – 0)
= 19x + y(– 6)
= 19x – 6y
Thus degree of the expression is 1.
