Question

Calculate the following:

The volume at s.t.p. occupied by a gas “Y” originally occupying 760 cc. at 300K and 70 cm. press, of Hg.

Sum

Solution

P1 = 70 cm

V1 = 760 cc

T1 = 300 K

P2 = 76 cm

V2 = ?

T2 = 273 K

Using gas equation `("P"_1"V"_1)/"T"_1 = ("P"_2"V"_2)/"T"_2`

`therefore "V"_2 = ("P"_1"V"_1"T"_1)/("T"_1"P"_2)`

`= (70 xx 760 xx 273)/(300 xx 76) = 637`

∴ V2 = 637 c.c
