`[(x + 2y, 3y),(4x, 2)] = [(0, -3),(8, 2)]`
Comparing, we get
3y = -3
⇒ y = `(-3)/(3)` = -1
4x = 8
⇒ x = `(8)/(4)` = 2
x – y = 2 – (-1)
= 2 + 1
= 3.
