Solution

‘Changes I would like in the School Education of our State’

Good morning, respected Principal, teachers, and all my dear friends. I, Miss Monica D'cruz, from class X, am here to share my thoughts on the topic ‘Changes, I would like in the School Education of our State’.

It is a matter of pleasure as well as sorrow for me to be addressing you today on the occasion of our farewell party. I am honoured to speak in front of you and at the same time, I am greatly sad that I would have to leave this wonderful place for further education. I will treasure all the lovely memories that I have had in all these years. As we all move on to the next phase of our lives, I would like to share my views as a student on the ‘Changes I would like in the School Education of our State’.

I recently came across a lovely story of a Japanese girl, Toto Chan, and the unique school that she went to. I was fascinated with the idea of a different school without classroom learning. It would not be practically possible to have such schools everywhere. However, it is possible to adopt a few changes to make our learning more interesting. We should have a subject that teaches us about some practical things that we will need in our life like taxes, banking transactions, planning, cooking, soft skills, etc. Another important change that could be brought about is having a choice of subjects in higher standards. One should have the liberty to choose between sciences, mathematics, languages, etc. that one wants to learn further, instead of the need to study all the subjects. Also, examinations should be based on understanding the subject matter and not on just learning by heart. Memory isn’t the best way to show intelligence, so a better system is necessary. As change is the only constant in life, our education system also needs to change with the modern age. Though it will take time and effort, it will ultimately develop the whole nation. We must look towards the future and prepare the next generations in this manner. Once again, I’m thankful to the institution for making me the person I am today. I will always be grateful to you and do my best to make you proud. Thank you.
