Complete physical fitness encompasses all the components of physical fitness. All of these components have a specific purpose in our body. They have a part in maintaining a physically fit and healthy body. They help individuals to look, feel, and do their best.
Physical fitness can be divided into two categories: health-related and motor-related.
- Health-related Components: These are the factors that are concerned with how well the systems of our body work. They can be listed as:
- Cardiovascular/Respiratory endurance: It is the ability of the circulatory system (heart and blood vessels) to supply oxygen to the working muscles during exercise.
- Stamina/Muscular endurance: It is the ability of a muscle group to continue muscular movement over a length of time, even under fatigue.
- Strength: Strength is the ability to resist or overcome resistance. Explosive strength is the amount of force that can be produced by a single contraction of a muscle.
- Flexibility: Flexibility denotes the range of movement possible at various joints.
- Motor skill-related Components: These are the aspects of fitness which form the basis for successful participation in sports. They can be listed as:
- Power: It is the ability of the body to do maximum work at an explosive pace.
- Speed: It is the ability of the body to move quickly, from one point to another.
- Coordination: It is the integration with hand and/or foot movements with the input of the senses.
- Agility: It is the ability of the body to change directions quickly.
- Balance: It is the ability of the body to maintain an upright posture while at rest or in motion.
